Funding decisions for winter 2021
Last week we decided on the projects we are funding. we had 23 applications, and 10.000 euros to divide. This round we said to dream big and only give us budgets between 1.000-3.000 euros. Most of the applications did that and this made the process difficult and because of that, we invited 2 non-council members to judge this process. Both guest judges were previously funded by us, we chose for this so they were already aware of the process. We have funded 10 projects.
the projects are:
B The Hundred, an ongoing social design project that started with the building of a sailing boat, in April 2021. Now, the boat will be used as a community-based space for workshops and events.
The Bread Oven, A group of 3rd-year students from DG will The Bread Oven and use it as a tool to bring people together. They will ensure that The Oven becomes a part of the fabric of the Rietveld and Sandberg community again.
Ceremony: hear the wind sing, A project aiming to explore possible ways cinema could exist outside the black-box context; experimented through site-specific scenographies and projections in various locations and
circumstances.
Cranberry Juice Event, An event, and exhibition that will bring together artists and thinkers to raise awareness about medical misogyny, fertility, and the inequalities surrounding sex and contraception.
F for Fact FILMCLUB, is a series of offline film screenings with guest directors that invites students of the Sandberg and Rietveld community to discuss the urgent matters approached in the films.
Hold my hand lets meet them by the speaker, is a series of performative lectures and events under the umbrella of club culture; reflecting on music, queer and feminist practices, and technology. Inviting Carlota Surós and Lou Drago & Pedro Marum.
Hotel Mokum, Hotel Mokum is a newly founded, self-organized free space in the center of Amsterdam in a former (budget-)hotel, squatted for this purpose on the 14th of October 14th. Adress is Marnixstraat 382
How to Pavillion: Getting together, aims to design and build a space in the Pavilion where the Rietveld/Sandberg community can get together without any other intention than getting together.
On Collective Reading, A "Reading Troupe" workshop with educator and artist Emma Haugh explores the format of a reading group through collective reading, performance, and DIY publishing.
Rietberg Running Club, an inclusive community created for students and alumni of the school who have an interest in sports for physical fitness and mental clarity reasons, or those who see it as an artistic medium.
To those projects that weren't funded, your projects were really good but we couldn't fund them all. We hope that you reapply! To make sure you can make your project even better and actually realize them: please come to our open office hours next winter/spring, so together we can improve your project proposal and budget and it will be the best!
